Harzianic acid

Harzianic acid is a secondary metabolite produced by the fungus Trichoderma harzianum. It belongs to a class of compounds called trichothecenes.

Harzianic acid has been shown to have antifungal activity against a wide range of plant pathogens, including Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, and Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. It works by inhibiting the growth and development of fungal cells by interfering with protein synthesis.

In addition to its antifungal properties, harzianic acid has also been shown to have insecticidal activity against several insect pests, including the Colorado potato beetle and the diamondback moth. It works by inhibiting the digestive enzymes of the insects, leading to starvation and death.
